Jessica got her moose!!
I was at her house when she called in to see if she was drawn for a moose tag.
Only about a 100 people can put into a draw for a moose tag and
only 10 are drawn, so when she started screaming, "You're kidding me...
no way!" I figured she got her tag. It's a once in a life time opportunity.
When she told Seth that she was putting in for a moose tag he said,
"Good luck with that"
She was pretty exciting and happy and a little in disbelief.
She had told Seth that she wanted the whole "hunting" experience.
Her first deer was shot off the side of the road and in the freezer that night.
Her second deer was confiscated by the rangers after she had tagged it
and then left to get Seth to help her get it off the mountain.
They eventually returned it after cutting the back straps out and the
meat was all spoiled from improper storage.
Well, this time she got her "hunting" experience.
"It was a LOT of work", she says.
Jessica and Seth spotted the moose and she shot him in the shoulder.
They hiked down to the area where they shot him and found him.
After he was shot, Seth began cutting the meat out while Jessica hiked
all the way down to the truck to call Wind to bring horses up to haul the meat out.
They took the horses up as far as they could and hiked the rest in.
Jessica and Michaela went back to the truck, it was getting dark.
It was raining and getting into the early morning before they decided
they had to leave it and come back the following day, they got home at 3am.
Seth and Wind were riding back with Kanook following on his own
and when they crossed a bridge they didn't hear Kanook come across.
Wind's horse, "Will He" neighed and Kanook neighed back.
Wind's horse, "Will He" neighed and Kanook neighed back.
Kanook had gotten down a steep ravine where they couldn't get to him
and had to leave him.
Jessica went up the next day looking for Kanook and found him near a creek
unhurt but shaking and nervous.
After getting kicked in the leg she had him calmed down and walked him out.
By then Seth and a few of their employees showed up and they took Kanook on
up to the moose meat. Luckily the meat was as they left it.
The bags they were using to put the meat in startled Kanook
and he stepped on Seth's toe.
Jessica started hearing noise in the bushes and hollered in case of a bear.
To her surprise people hollered back, it was Wind and Dallin!
Kanook had a leg in each bag of the pack that was on him, Seth carried the 100 lb
moose head and everyone else was packing meat. The day ended at 2 am.
Wow! What a hunt.
Little stressful, lots of excitement.
I'm grateful everyone is ok, including the horses.
