Stone Rodeo

Troy and I decide to drive 45 min. to watch the Stone Rodeo in Stone, Idaho this past July
There are thunder clouds and fields full of water.
Troy starts thinking we are going to turn back home.
I start getting disappointed
We get gas for the drive home and I grab rain ponchos, $2 each
Troy grabs a hat! Does that mean we are going to the rodeo?
We were the only ones with ponchos and it never rained again that night
A rodeo we will always remember
The arena was one huge muddy pond

The PA system shorted out from all the rain
A cowboy rode back and forth yelling out the next events and telling jokes
The horse stops
A steady stream of horse urine
A good strong gust of wind
Makes the cute girls on the bottom bench run for cover screaming

These pictures and movies are not that great, I only had my cell phone to take pictures with. The cowboys would be thrown off and disappear in the mud. The last saddle bronc rider came out wearing swim trunks. He dove on his belly in the water after his ride. The calves heads had to be held up out of the water so they wouldn't drown. I don't know if anyone really won in any of the events because their timing was so horrible due to all of the water and mud. A cowboy was holding on to the end of his rope while the lassoed horse dragged him through the water. Could hardly see him except for the wave of muddy water going over him. We are surprised that no one died that night. Young girls would be chasing steers to grab the pink ribbon off their tails after the guys lassoed them on horseback. It was crazy! It was a great time with everyone in the bleachers laughing. On our way home Troy says, "I am glad that you talked me into staying, that was the best rodeo I've been too". Years ago when Wind was a senior in high school he and his friends: Scooby and Chief did the Wild Horse ride. Three guys have to catch one of the wild horses that have been let loose in the arena and one in the team has to ride the horse around the arena once. Wind and his friends pulled the horse down and Wind hops on. He was wearing nylon gym shorts and sneakers, not very western looking! He says he should have won but gave it the guy that got on his horse first. Wind rode his the longest.
