We decided to start our first "Troy & Kathy" family reunion this year. I was trying to plan for all of us to get together up at Seth and Wind's places to celebrate summer birthdays and it evolved into a reunion. With most of our children out on their own now I felt it was important that we get this started. It came together real fast, one week. I would like to have planned it out better but I think it turned out nice concidering. The hardest part was working around everyones work schedules. Seth suggested Bear Lake, which helped me because I had to deliver mail Saturday morning. Bear Lake was closer than Seth's. Seth, Jessica and Wind got to Bear Lake Friday night, camping at the KOA campground. They had no reservations, but KOA put them up in the back field. As soon as I was done with my route Troy, Blue and I drove to Logan and picked Sundi up.
This is us on the dock waiting for the boys to pick us up in the marina. We were getting bummed out, it was taking them forever and we wanted to go boating. Seth and Wind picked up the boat we rented for the day at 9 am Saturday morning. We didn't get their till 1:15 pm. We called them on the cell phone to let them know we were there. It took them an hour to pick us up! They said they couldn't find the marina. The lake is big and you can easily loose track of where you are on the lake. We made PB&J sandwiches while we waited.
Troy is smiling because he survived tubing with the boys pulling him behind the boat. Everyone was nervous about going into the water with Seth and Wind driving. He says he is getting too old for "that"!
The kids were laughing at Troy's well put together boating outfit! He had on camoflage shoes, plaid shirt, red net tank top with orange and yellow flowered swim trunks
Jessica and Sundi were in charge of the flag and looking cute! They sat at the front of the boat the whole time. They wouldn't get on the tube. At the end of the day the water was getting really choppy causing the boat to go up and slam down on the water. Their bums were getting really sore. They screamed everytime a wave would come up on them.
This is the boys getting the rope out of the propeller. Wind told us that earlier in the day they forgot to put the propellor down in the water, so when they went to pull Seth on the tube the boat went straight up. Wind yelled for Jessica to go to the front of the boat. She wouldn't! Seth and Wind play very hard. They were really good at wake boarding and tubing. We had the boat till 5 pm. We sat in the boat in the marina while Seth got his truck. There was two lines of trucks out the marina creeping to the dock to load up boats. Seth said the guy infront of him kept letting people go ahead of him. He said he was about to rip his head off. Wind was completely wiped out from boating. He pumped his matress up and zonked right out while we set up camp and cooked dinner.
Wind suggested dutch oven dinner. I have never done it before but it turned out fabulous. I made cheesy, gooy potatoes, BBQ chicken, corn on the cobb and peach cobbler. While we were shoveling our cobbler down we were commenting how good it was, but how it had a slight funny taste. Troy took one bite and said the cake mix I used was rancid. That was exactly it! Oh, I was disappointed. I thought Jessica and Sundi would help me a little, but those two little stinkers went and took showers and got all cleaned up. That is ok, I didn't want to parent my children during this trip I just wanted to enjoy being with them. I wanted them to do whatever they wanted. They were able to visit a lot. Sundi and Jessica haven't spent a lot of time together and so I think they really enjoyed being talking and visiting.
Our camp was a little pathetic. Seth and Jessica set up a canopy and a 8 man tent with matress. Blue had a little kids tent from when he was little, Sundi slept in the car, Wind was on a matress under the stars and then Troy and I had our tent! We haven't opened it for years so we weren't sure what we were going to find. There were cob webs and leaf cutter bugs had packed leaf debre in the ends of the tent polls. As we started to put it together we discovered that some of the polls were too short because they didn't belong to that tent. It was embarassing! Troy managed to rig it together. Next year we will be more prepared.
The next day we went to the Minnetonka Caves. That was fun. We were the only ones that didn't bring a light jacket, it was freezing in there.
We had lunch together on the North Shore Park of Bear Lake and didn't a little swimming to cool off. We said good-bye to Seth, Jessica and Wind and went home. We had a great time being with the kids. It wasn't long enough. Just when you get comfortable it was all over.
