Ward Campout

Pleasant View Ward had our first ward camp-out.

We drove out to Daniels to the Buehler farm.

There were only about 9 couples and me that showed up.

It was so peaceful out there.

Brother Buehler has been working on an outhouse that his wife says is taking too long, 

and is too far away for anyone wanting to use it.

He is pretty proud of it. 

 They love cooking in their dutch ovens.

Here Bishop Jeff Gibson made chocolate pudding cake, scones with a miniature candy bar in the center.

 The out house is up behind those trees.

This little guy kept a scowl on his face till Nancy roasted him hot dogs.

He wanted nothing to do with his tin foil dinner his mother made for him.

After he had his hot dogs, he was a different boy...all smiles.

He loves his little brother, Lincoln.

He invited me to look in his camper, "It's bigger"

 After touring the camper he says, "Come on Girls" and led his mother and I back to the campfire.

Debbie grew up in Scottsdale, AZ and after marring Don, he moved her into a little house on the farm out in  Daniels.  She took a few of us ladies up to the old house. Her husband still farms the land and every fall after work she drives a 1/2 hr. to the farm to drive the tractor and help him harvest the wheat.

I could not imagine being a new mother and raising 5 children so far from everything, but then it sounded so magical as she told us what it was like for her children to grow up on the farm. She would send them to check the mailbox, a mile walk, it kept them busy for a good hour.

We listen to Debbie share with us her memories of raising 5 little children in the old house.  She showed us the camper size tub she insisted on having to bath her children in, the washer she got replace the wringer washer that she would fill with a hose hooked to the kitchen sink, the corner walled off for a toilet in her bedroom, the make shift desk attached to the wall for the kids.

She found this needlepoint hanging on the wall from an old boyfriend from Germany, dated 1974. He wishing her family a wonderful Christmas (all written in German)
